I chose to create this artwork as a tribute to Dan Campbell (Head Coach, Detroit Lions) out of respect and appreciation for the mindset and culture of Hard Work and Grit that he has instilled into the Detroit Lions Locker Room and Organization as a whole. Being a former player himself and also being part of the Lions roster during our darkest time (the dreaded 0-16 season), he has taken his experiences to transform our team by leading it from the sideline to our first Number 1 Seed in the NFC and our most winningest record (15-2) heading into a playoff run where for the first time in the Super Bowl Era; The Detroit Lions are favorites to win it all…
Details: The 3 poses I chose for this project were based on gestures and actions I felt were iconic or meaningful (top, left, right): A “Mean Mug” look that I felt expressed the “Grit” that Dan Campbell has infused into The Lions, a fist pump signifying a triumph that also pays homage to his love for his wife and family (wedding ring), then finally what I feel is a position Coach Campbell often takes on the sideline when he’s eagle-eye staring down the line of scrimmage…most likely right before we convert another 4th Down😎
The text “MC/DC” (Motor City Dan Campbell) which I feel is a bada$$ nickname that also pays homage to an iconic rock band (AC/DC) is featured at the top left, with a stylized Lions logo to the far right that features my signature style of line-work. At the bottom, the Bold and (Honolulu) Blue text that reads the spirit of our team: GRIT.
